I have changed my car's wheels for ones of the same size — do I have to declare them?

What should you do?
- Tell the insurer the make, type and size of the replacement wheels.
- Explain whether they are manufacturer options or aftermarket wheels.
- Check that tyres remain suitable and legal.
- Do not assume 'same size' means 'same specification'.
What can make a difference?
The result can depend on your level of cover, exclusions, excess, information given when the policy was arranged or renewed, who was driving, and the precise circumstances. Two policies both described as “comprehensive” can still contain different terms.
If the wheels are simply like-for-like replacements, say that clearly when asking the insurer.
Insurers can have different definitions of a vehicle modification. If the replacement wheels differ from the manufacturer’s standard specification, tell the insurer and let them decide whether the change needs to be recorded.
